The construction of Sydney’s next great theatre, Sydney Coliseum Theatre is rapidly progressing and we are excited to share with you our latest construction update as we countdown the months to opening.
The final months of 2018 marked many significant milestones with several visual changes to the exterior of the building becoming apparent. The installation of the steel trusses for the theatre auditorium roof structure was completed – meaning that the roofline is now visible and really brings to life the scale of the building. It was a huge effort over 4 days with massive steel pieces measuring 37m long being positioned into place by cranes and site workers. Additionally, the 1300 sqm of speed panelling which provides sound insulation to the auditorium was installed around the interior of the stage walls.
A very exciting milestone is the start of the exterior concrete panel installation. With every panel carefully positioned into place, the beautiful curved shape of the building becomes more and more apparent. In total there are 278 pale mauve, shimmering panels, each weighing approx. 2.0t – 10t each that are a striking architectural feature that will give the venue it’s iconic shape and place against the Western Sydney horizon.
Sydney Coliseum Theatre is not only built for Greater Western Sydney, it’s built by many hands from our exciting, booming region. Through the construction process we are especially proud to be supporting local businesses such as Hansen Precast, Urban Stone, Everwilling Cranes, Big River Timber and Holcim Plant right here in Rooty Hill in bringing this incredible new landmark venue to life.
In addition to the theatrical development, a multiplex car park is currently under construction creating greater connectivity for visitors and members throughout our entire precinct. The car park will comprise approximately 3000 sqm over four levels and combined with existing facilities will offer over 1600 free car parking spaces.
