Our Legacy

Our History

Rooty Hill RSL Club started operating as a fully licensed club in a modest premise located in North Pde Rooty Hill, with 127 members when the doors officially opened on 29 February 1964.

Thanks to our growing membership, we moved to our current location on Sherbrooke St, which opened in 1972.

Our Growth

From the Fred Chubb Lounge in 1974 to the TAB/Sports Lounge in 2003, there have been several major developments over the five decades since the club’s opening. The redevelopments allowed a total makeover to accommodate our growing membership.

In May 2008, we launched our new $5.5 million health & fitness facility, SGAC Health Fitness Aquatic (now One55 Health & Fitness). With many group fitness classes and state of the art fitness equipment, it is the largest fitness centre in Western Sydney. In 2013, we saw the completion of the Sydney Gymnastics and Aquatic Centre (SGAC), which sees approximately 3,000 people through its doors weekly.

Our unprecedented growth also saw Eat St.’s opening on 12 July 2019, which brought some of Sydney’s top chefs and food brands to Greater Western Sydney for the first time, including Sean Connolly, Stefano Manfredi and Steve Anastasiou. Our dining area’s redevelopment was just the latest chapter in a 10-year journey and offered a unique dining experience for our patrons. It was also in that same year that we celebrated the grand opening of the Sydney Coliseum Theatre. Breathtaking and technically brilliant, our opening week saw artists like Keith Urban, Missy Higgins, David Campbell, John Butler, Amy Shark and Dame Edna perform.

Our Future

The dynamic growth of Rooty Hill RSL formed the basis of West HQ, which resulted in facilities like Zone Bowling, Sydney West Sports Medicine and Novotel Sydney West HQ, making the destination their home. From an RSL constructed on two suburban building blocks, West HQ now covers about nine hectares (20 acres).

As West HQ, we hope to continue to provide services to our 60,000 members as we continue to grow as the leading landmark destination for entertainment, fitness, lifestyle, and accommodation in the Greater Western Sydney region.
